The way to install MI

The way to install MI

Please note that the parts of MI are of a size less than 220kB, so the downloads will be very fast with high-speed internet access.
During the setup procedure MISetup requires Internet access to download accessories. Please allow MISetup the internet access in steps marked with an asterix *.

1. Loading and installing MISetup

Download MISetup from our download page to a folder of your choice and launch it.
On page MI Features you will find hints how to use MISetup in section MISetup.

With the first launch of MISetup it will prompt you for a program folder for the MI installation (usually C:\program files\MI\) and will copy itself to this folder and re-launching MISetup from there.

IIn the next step of the installation MISetup will prompt you for a folder for administration the data of MI and its accessories.
As default MISetup will offer the folder MIData in ...\My Documents.
This folder, respectively another selected folder, will be created and 2 additional folders, AuxFiles and UpdPacks, will be created in the MIData folder.
The names will be shown in the text fields Auxiliary Files and Update packets.

All reports and other messages of MI, MIP and MISetup will be stored in the folder AuxFiles. A downloaded trial version will be saved in folder UpdPacks by MISetup. MISetup expects updates e.g. for a full or a newer version to be stored in folder UpdPacks.
Please save update files always in folder UpdPacks.

MISetup stores all actions or events in the files MISetup.log in the folder for auxiliary files. You can read in the log-file what you have done at which date and time while maintaining the MI installation.

4. Ordering a full version*

For ordering a full version of MI please launch MISetup and click the button Order MI full version. MISetup will now create an ordering key and stores it in the clipboard. You need not to write this key down.

You will be redirected to the ordering page of our partner JMS where you can purchase and pay the full version online. Please paste the ordering key to the intended field in the form by typing ctrl-v or using the context menu insert. Without your ordering key we can't create a license key for your computer.

As soon as the payment is handled by JMS we will receive a mail with your ordering data. We will create your license key and will send it to you by email. In the mail you will find some hints how to use the license key.

In a second mail you will receive the actual full version of MI in form of an update packet. The name of this file will be e.g. MIFull20_425, where 20 represents the version number and 425 represents the build number. Please save this file of around 220 kB to the folder UpdPacks, the exact path is shown in MISetup's text field Update Packets.

9. Installing MI on an additional system without internet access

You would like to use MI on an additional system without internet access?
No problem, for each full version of MI we grant an additional license key for usage e.g. on a Notebook or another computer.

It sounds a bit complicate, but it isn't. You have only to accompany MISetup with some manual tasks, so that MISetup "thinks" its done by itself.

Copy the following files to a removable medium (FDD, USB-Stick etc.) or directly via LAN to a folder on the target computer.

  • MISetup.exe from ‘Program Path’)
  • MI_LicenseAgreement.txt (from ‘Program Path’)
  • MITial.pak (from ‘Update Packets’)
  • MIFullxx_xxx.pak (from ‘Update Packets’)

Then launch MISetup from this medium/folder on the target system.

MISetup will prompt you for a program folder and will copy itself to this folder. In the next step MISetup will prompt you for the MIData folder and will create the subfolders.

Now copy MI_LicenseAgreement.txt to the new program folder and MITrial.pak to the UpdPacks folder.

With the next launch of MISetup it assumes you have accepted the license agreement. And offers you the installation of the trial version.

As soon as the trial version is installed start the ordering procedure by clicking the button Order MI full version in MISetup. The new ordering key will be generated and saved to the clipboard. Copy the ordering key to a text file which should be readable by a system with internet access.

For ordering an additional key copy the ordering key to the clipboard and use this LINK and select on this site ordering an additional or replacement key.

We will send you the license key for the new installation as soon as possible.

After receiving the additional license key copy the file MIFullxx_yyy.pak from the above mentioned medium to the UpdPacks folder and launch MISetup for installing the full version. Be sure the additional license key is stored in your clipboard when launching MI on this system for the first time. With MI’s menu Help, Enter license key you can now upgrade MI to a full version.
